RE: camp ground that alow 36ft 5th wheel

We camped there this past summer. The only campground with Full hookups is at Fishing Bridge and a 36 footer would be to big unless you unhook and park your vehicle in the overflow lot. If you go online to Yellowstone there is all the info you will need. Make reservations early the place fills up fast. We were there after labor day and it wasn't to bad but it did get cold at night.

RE: new mattress for 5th wheel

One solution is to have one made from 4 or 5 inch memory foam at your local Sleep shop or mattress factory. I did this for one of my truck campers and it was terrific to sleep on. I'm having one made for my fiver now.

RE: 5er gets hammered on highways

I replaced the lousy, no lube suspension that came with our fiver with the Dexter Easy Flex Kit. The original shackles and "PLASTIC bushings" were complety worn out and ready to break. This has helped to smooth out the ride. But there are some interstate in such bad repair that no matter what you have it will bounce around. We have over 20,000 miles on our fiver now and have towed it from east to west and north to south. There are a few interstates I just avoid. Check your suspension over thourghly.

RE: Problem with Landing Gear

Sounds like you need a couple good bottle jacks and several wood blocks so you can jack the front up on the frame so you can get it high enough to hook up.

RE: Louvered Tailgate??

Some like the louvered tailgate for the ease of hooking up and others like the idea of the regular tailgate and having a tri-fold tonneau cover. I have the tonneau cover and the reason I like it is when the fiver isn't hooked up everything in the bed of the truck is protected. (out of sight out of mind). Also when towing the forward 1/3 of the bed is covered which protects my generator and tool box. Because the forward 1/3 off the bed is covered also decreases the turbulence in the bed. The best way to prevent damage to your truck or fiver is to always use a checklist when hooking and unhooking then double check everything. IMHO

RE: jacking

I also use a bottle jack but I jack the axle with the jack in between the spring u-bolts. Much easier than jacking the frame up high enough to get the wheel off the ground. One thing you do not want to do is to jack in the middle of the axles. If I need to put jack stands under the frame for like working on the suspension I do one side at a time and leave the fiver hooked to my truck.

RE: Cold Weather Camping

I use our 5th wheel (276RLS Cougar) to winter camp/hunt here in Wisconsin. I always carry extra RV antifreeze with me and use it in all the waste tanks. I also use a Yamaha generator depending how cold it is too keep the batteries charged for running the furnace. I also have a Mr.(buddy) Heater that I use during the day to keep the temperature up in the RV if the outside temp is above freezing. If the outside temp remains below freezing all day then I run the generator and the furnace so plumbing underneath don't freeze. I also carry extra water for coffee and cooking and use the water in the holding tank just for showers. I carry 2 extra propane tanks with me just in case it stays really cold all week.

RE: Trailer noise

My only thought would be to inspect your wheel bearings on the trailer.

RE: Switching to 6 volt system

Copy and paste the following link into your browser it tells you all about how it works using golf cart batteries and how to do it. And as stated above (4) 6 volts are a wonderful thing to have. http://www.ccis.com/home/mnemeth/12volt/12volt.htm

RE: Rear bunks or rear loft for kids?

Keep in mind that kids grow up quick. In 4 to 6 years your needs may be a lot different. As your kids get older they will want and need their own amount of privacy.

RE: broken window

One of my early truck campers was damaged while parked at our home from hail and our home owners insurance covered it.

RE: Solar Panel wiring routing

I have my solar panel wireing running down the bathroom vent then into the cellar where my solar controller is mounted and then to the batteries. Works great but would like to add another 100 watt panel. I now have an 80 watt.

RE: Heaters

I purchased the 12 foot hose extension for my Buddy heater so I can hook it to a larger propane source. While hooking it up I reread the instructions on the Buddy heater box. It clearly states not to go to sleep with the Mr. "Buddy" Heater on. My "Buddy Heater" was purchased last year. Like stated earlier I do not sleep with it on. It is a great little heater and I use it during the day when not hooked to shore power.

RE: Heaters

I use a Mr Buddy heater in my RV during deer season. I do not use it when sleeping. Instead I use it when I'm out hunting to keep the RV warm, this decreases my battery usage and keeps me from running my generator while hunting. The Buddy heater is very safe when used as per the instructions.

RE: Adjusting Lippert extended pin box

I just moved mine up one hole last week. It is very easy to do especially if you have a good air compressor and an air impact wrench. Just be cautious and keep your fingers and hand out of the way when you loosen the last bolt. I took mine completely out to inspect the welds. Glad I did because I found that the main wireing harness had rubbed the insulation off one of the Big wires where it goes through the frame.

RE: Husky hitch

Ditto what Rossey said. Just make sure you have the locking pin removed and lock lever up before you back up to hitch.

RE: Raising front of 5ver

How much clearance do you have between the fiver and the truck bed rails now?
